As Engineering Manager, Diego is head of monopile foundation concept/design-to-manufacturing-tendering for Rampion Offshore Wind Farm off the Sussex coast. Similarly, he is Leading Design Engineer for the development of innovative MP-TP bolted-flange connections that offer significant steel and installation cost reduction advantages over conventional grouted systems.
Diego is a PhD level Senior Structural Design Engineer with extensive technical, managerial and lead engineer experience, He is a member of the LICenergy UK team dedicated to making key aspects of sector design, manufacture, installation and O&M intrinsically more efficient.
His work on Rampion includes market-testing and preparing advanced foundation solutions ready for manufacture, from concept, planning, cost-modelling and certification through to full operation. He also quantifies design strengths and liaises closely with many parties, including investors.
In the same way, he drives the development of efficient and robust flange connections via a highly-detailed approach to manufacture and installation. The work scope has involved both thorough numerical analysis and collaboration with the O&M team on the physical inspection and monitoring of bolts.
Diego also takes an expert interest in assessing the technical / economic / manufacturing / O&M advantages of metallization coating, epoxy coating, sacrificial anodes and ICCP corrosion protection systems for deep water, offshore wind turbine foundations. Currently, he leads a consortium of eight companies on the qualification of metallization coatings for offshore wind.
